And We Have Our PRESIDENT SNOW!

Congrats to Donald Sutherland for landing the role of President Snow in The Hunger Games! Although I didn't really have him pictured as my President Snow, I think he will do a GREAT job! I've seen him in Fierce People with a young Kristen Stewart .. very good movie!
LOS ANGELES, CA, May 31, 2011- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES are pleased to announce that Donald Sutherland has been cast in the role of President Snow in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel.

SUTHERLAND, star of such iconic films as M*A*S*H, Ordinary People , Klute and Kelly’s Heroes, will next be seen in this summer’s comedy, Horrible Bosses and recently starred in The Mechanic with Jason Statham and Ben Foster, The Eagle with Channing Tatum and the highly-successful long form adaptation of Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth.

About The Role
President Snow has been the autocratic ruler of Panem and its contained districts for some 25 years at the outset of the story. With a snake-like appearance, he is cruel and ruthless in his intimidation and control tactics.

More Set Locations Announced

More information of the various locations of The Hunger Games set locations have slowly been announced thanks to a local news anchor.
News anchor Russ Bowen has been sharing his exclusive details in regards to Hunger Games filming in North Carolina.
He has now released more information in regards to filming at a new location -
  • Preparations for filming began in May but shooting will take place between June 20 through 30
  • The N. Fork Reservoir in Black Mountain is the site. Asheville is taking measures to ensure filming is protected
  • It appears that most of the arena scenes will be shot in Asheville as will most of the explosions and fire
    • This includes the blowing up of the bag of apples scene
    • But its in a location no one will have access to which is probably a good idea
  • The exciting explosive lake scenes in the arena will be filmed in Asheville
  • Part of arena to be shot in Dupont state forest. Forget about trying to find where though
Russ always gives great details on filming while still respecting the privacy of the film .. we love him for that!

JLaw Cast in Spacek's 'Sweet Tea'

Jennifer Lawrence's life is in the process of changing .. forever. The hype for her upcoming movie, The Hunger Games, is sure to sky-rocket her career (as if it wasn't already on that path anyways). JLaw already has a project lined up for her after she wraps filming for The Hunger Games--Sissy Spacek's directorial debut film called Sweet Tea. JLaw sure has a full plate on her hands!
Someone save Jennifer Lawrence! She’s got X-Men: First Class coming up in a couple weeks, and she’s been cast in one of the next big blockbuster mega-movies in the Hunger Games series. Now, she’s also going to be in the directorial debut of Sissy “They’re All Gonna Laugh At You” Spacek, entitled Sweet Tea.

Sweet Tea is based on a novel called Goodbye to the Buttermilk Sky by Julia Oliver. The script, on the other hand, is by C. Gaby Mitchell, who also wrote the script for Get Low, which starred Spacek. Here’s Jennifer Lawrence on what it’s about:

“It’s a drama but it’s kind of a down south love story drama, about a mother who gets married young and meets another man and starts thinking that maybe she made a mistake.”

So this movie is basically designed to appeal to your mom in the same way that Get Low was designed to appeal to your dad. I can’t wait!

Vanessa Hudgens & Josh Hutcherson Spotted in Asheville!

Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) have been spotted together, more than once. The first public outing was what seemed to be a bowling date. Now, apparently Vanessa has ALREADY visited Josh on the set of The Hunger Games and went zip lining in the hills of Asheville, NC! I think its safe to say that these two are more than just friends ...

Filming of the The Hunger Games in North Carolina is just getting underway and star Josh Hutcherson, who plays Peeta, has a special visitor on set: Vanessa Hudgens!

The stealth couple was spotted zipping together in Asheville, NC Sunday. Look how happy they are!

Navitat Canopy Adventures posted this on their Facebook:

“With their permission, we’re excited to share with you that actors Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Hutcherson zipped with us at Navitat Asheville yesterday! Thanks, Vanessa and Josh for joining us! Enjoy your time in Asheville :) and we hope to see you soon in Cali!”

Josh and Vanessa have been separated with V off in Cannes and Hutcherson in grueling fight training in North Carolina, so we’re glad the “friends” have reunited.

Shelby, NC is 'District 12'

A local news station in Charlotte, NC reports set locations for The Hunger Games. Of the locations, Shelby, NC has been named "District 12," Katniss' (Jennifer Lawrence) hometown.
SHELBY, N.C. -- It's a movie based on some hugely popular books and it's being filmed in and around Charlotte.

The books are being compared to "Twilight" and "Harry Potter," and now, the "Hunger Games" has turned parts of our area into a movie set.

"Yeah, it's huge. It's huge," said self-proclaimed movie buff Noel Manning. "I think the fact that you've got a movie based on the book with such an incredible following is one thing. Any town that lands the opportunity to have part of the film shot in that location is pretty amazing."

Manning hosts a radio show about the movies at Gardener-Webb University where he works and says it's clear from the set that Shelby will play a big role in the movie.

We found "District 12" -- the main character's hometown -- being prepped for shooting.

"That's where the 'Hunger Games' begin. That's where the activity begins so when you see behind us something that says District 12, you realize, wow, OK, this is a major part of the film right here in Shelby," Manning said.

Brian Vaughn admits to being a movie geek and happens to work in a locksmith shop just across the street from the warehouses, serving as the "Hunger Games" set.

"I know it's a big following like 'Twilight.' People coming around here wanting to know favorite characters, who is playing them, stuff like that," Vaughn said.

Vaughn himself is hoping to see one of the lead actors -- one of his favorites.

"If I get to see Woody Harrelson, I definitely have to go get an autograph," he said.

Manning expects the town may soon swell with fans.

"There's just a huge buzz out there on the Internet about this particular film as well, and just tons of people wanting to get involved and see where this movie is being filmed," he said.

The movie will shoot throughout the summer and will include some filming in Charlotte. The "Hunger Games" is scheduled for a March 2012 release.

Set Location: May 24th

According to On Location Vacations, The Hunger Games will be filming in Hildebran, NC Tuesday, May 24, 2011. The scene that they are rumored to be filming here will serve as the Mellark's bakery (maybe the flashback scene of Peeta and Katniss?).

Casting news: Octavia & Portia

And we finally have Katniss' stylists cast--Octavia and Portia! This movie is slowly coming together! Can't wait to start seeing pics of the actors in character :)
Two of the other District 12 stylists, Octavia and Portia, will be played by Brooke Bundy and Latarsha Rose, respectively. The pair of actresses were confirmed by Lionsgate as being onboard for The Hunger Games (via the studio’s Twitter feed).

Lenny Kravitz is Cinna!

Lenny Kravitz has been cast as Cinna in The Hunger Games!

The 46-year-old rocker will star opposite Jennifer Lawrence, who’s playing Katniss Everdeen, as her assigned fashion stylist for the Games.

“Though he’s a mild mannered first time stylist, the designs he creates, such as the ‘Girl On Fire’ costume for the tributes’ live televised debut, are show-stopping. With odds being set, wagers being placed, and wealthy benefactors able to occasionally intervene in the games, a high public profile is tantamount to a huge advantage for any contestant entering the arena. The stunning and unique designs Cinna creates for Katniss define her public identity, and in an all too real way, could also contribute to her very survival.”

Jennifer's Favorite HG Scenes

Jennifer Lawrence recently confided in EW about what scenes in The Hunger Games she is most looking forward to coming to life on screen:
[SPOILER ALERT!] Yesterday, EW revealed the exclusive first look of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. The 20-year-old Oscar nominee was first turned onto Suzanne Collins’ beloved dystopian trilogy, about children forced to fight to death to amuse a brutal government, last Christmas. Her mother, who runs a summer day camp in Lawrence’s hometown of Louisville, Ky., lent her her own dog-eared copies and Lawrence fell fast and hard. As she gobbled down the books, two scenes stuck out as ones that would be a particular thrill for any actress to play. With filming on Gary Ross’ movie kicking off this week in North Carolina, she’s living the dream.
Her No. 1 scene from The Hunger Games: “The first time that Katniss has to go into the cylinder and she goes up into the arena and looks around and sees it for the first time,” says Lawrence. “Knowing that when that trumpet blows she could die. The thing that’s great about her is she’s not a murderer. She’s a hunter, but she’s not a killer. I told Gary, ‘I totally understand if you don’t hire me, but please remember that after Katniss shoots a bow and kills someone her face cannot be badass. It has to be broken.’ She has to be heartbroken because she just took another person’s life. It’s so tempting, especially with a cool, big budget franchise movie, but we have to remember that she’s a 16-year-old girl who’s being forced to do this. These kids are only killing each other because if they don’t, they’ll die. It’s needless, pointless, unjustified violence. So there’s nothing cool about her. It’s not like she looks around the arena and goes ‘Yeah, I got this, I’m going to do this.’ I think she looks around terrified and thinks, ‘Well there are all the million different ways that I can die.’”
Her No. 1 scene from the entire trilogy, however, comes from the second book: “It’s from Catching Fire,” she says. “When she finds out that she has to go back and she runs in and has a complete meltdown — I remember reading that and being like ‘I want to act that!’”
Without hesitation, he reads, “On the seventy-fifth anniversary, as a reminder to the rebels that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the power of the Capitol, the male and female tributes will be reaped from their existing pool of victors.”
My mother gives a faint shriek and Prim buries her face in her hands, but I feel more like the people I see in the crowd on television. Slightly baffled. What does it mean? Existing pool of victors?
Then I get what it means. At least, for me. District 12 only has three existing victors to choose from. Two male. One female…
I am going back into the arena.

Pics of 'District 12' Set

Here are some pics of The Hunger Games set of District 12. Thanks to @RussBowenNews13 for all of the exclusive pics!

More pics after break .....

First Look @ Katniss!!!

EW has just released our first glimpse of Jennifer Lawrence's transformation as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games! Before, I didn't "see" Jennifer as being the Katniss I imagined while reading the book, but now that they've given her than District 12 makeover, she DEFINITELY passes the test! SOO excited!

Purchase next week's (May 20th's) Entertainment Weekly to own this exclusive first look at The Hunger Games!
Fans of The Hunger Games – Suzanne Collins’ terrifically urgent dystopian trilogy about children forced to fight to the death — have always been protective of 16-year-old heroine Katniss Everdeen. So when Lionsgate and director Gary Ross announced that they had cast 20-year-old Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) in the lead role, the community was thrown into an inevitable tailspin. Was she too old, too blonde, too pale, too pretty to do the gritty warrior girl justice? In this week’s cover story, EW was granted an exclusive interview with a newly brunette Lawrence, and spent hours watching her train on a Los Angeles archery range and track, just days before she was due on the North Carolina set.

In a free-wheeling interview, Lawrence describes her first encounter with Ross last winter, during the height of Oscar season. “He was asking me what the experience was like,” she recalls, “and I just kind of opened up and said, ‘I feel like a rag doll. I have hair and makeup people coming to my house every day and putting me in new, uncomfortable, weird dresses and expensive shoes, and I just shut down and raise my arms up for them to get the dress on, and pout my lips when they need to put the lipstick on.’ And we both started laughing because that’s exactly what it’s like for Katniss in the Capitol. She was a girl who’s all of a sudden being introduced to fame. I know what that feels like to have all this flurry around you and feel like, ‘Oh, no, I don’t belong here.’”
When Lawrence was offered the role, she describes her response as a mixture of elation — and desperate anxiety. “I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change,” she says. “And I walked around an entire day thinking ‘It’s not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven’t said yes yet, it’s not too late.’”
And yet, who can turn their back on Katniss? “I love this story,” she says, “and if I had said no, I would regret it every day.” After officially signing on, Suzanne Collins herself called to offer a starstruck Lawrence her most hearty congratulations. “I feel like when you said yes,” the author told her, “the world got lifted off my shoulders.”

And The Last Tributes Have Been Announced!

I thought I'd never see the day: finally, the last tributes have been announced! Alexander Ludwig and Isabelle Fuhrman are the lucky two to play Cato and Clove in The Hunger Games movie.
The Reaping is complete.

All 24 "Hunger Games" tributes have been cast following the news today (via Facebook) that Alexander Ludwig and Isabelle Fuhrman will represent District 2 as Cato and Clove.

"Hunger Games" fans may remember Alexander as one of the handful of actors on the shortlist to portray Katniss love interest and District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark. The 19-year-old is probably best-known for playing Seth in the 2009 Disney flick "Race to Witch Mountain."

Fellow tribute, 14-year-old Isabelle, already has one conniving creepster to her credit: She played evil Esther in the 2009 film "Orphan." (Meaning "bloody thirsty teen" is nothing new for her.)
I'm not too sure if I'm happy with these choices. Aren't the tributes from District 2 supposed to be the Careers? And aren't the Careers supposed to be like .. buff?

District 10 Tributes!

And now the District 10 Tributes have been announced, we have one district left to finish out the Hunger Games tributes. Any ideas as to who they will select for Clove and Cato?
It seems like most of the casted Hunger Games' Tributes are fairy new to the Hollywood scene, but Jeremy Marinas and Dakota Hood, the Tributes from District 10, have a bit of experience under their belts according to E! Online's Ted Casablanca.
In The Hunger Games, District 10 doesn't see a whole lot of glory beyond being famous for, yes, its cows. Maybe the just-cast fresh faces, including one with some serious dance moves, can change all that?
With all the roster of 24 tributes almost complete, let's meet the two newcomers who just landed one helluva gig:
Jeremy Marinas and Dakota Hood.
Hood is fairly new to Hollywood, having one credit to her name from 2007's Scripture Cake: A Southern Cuisine Movie.
Not that her role will require serious acting chops, as the character (SPOILER ALERT!) may not last tooo long in the 74th Hunger Games. We'll see...
Marinas, on the other hand, already has quite the resume of experience.
He's done stunt work for The Expendables, The Green Hornet and the upcoming Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes sequel, and he even appeared as a dancer in the Justin Bieber documentary, Never Say Never.

Woody Harrelson is Haymitch!

Finally we get news about who has been cast as Haymitch, the infamous drunk Victor of District 12 (Peeta and Katniss' mentor)! Drum roll please .... It's Woody Harrelson! I'm so so so happy that they went with Woody! I think he can play the twisted, complex mind of Haymitch like its nothing! Congrats Woody, welcome to The Hunger Games family!
The role of former Hunger Games competitor and now mentor Haymitch Abernathy has been cast for the Hunger Games movie, according to official news from Lionsgate!–
LOS ANGELES, CA, May 10, 2011- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES are pleased to announce that actor Woody Harrelson (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, ZOMBIELAND) has been cast in the role of Haymitch Abernathy in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel.
Said director Gary Ross of the casting decision, “Haymitch is such an unforgettable character: funny cranky outrageous, sarcastic, impatient, biting but ultimately kind. I’m so grateful we have Woody Harrelson to play him. I can’t wait for us to get to work.”

Tucci as Caesar Flickerman!

Stanley Tucci has been cast as Caesar Flickerman! As you may know, Caesar is the charismatic TV host of the Capitol, most significantly interviewing the various Tributes before the Hunger Games begin.
Stanley Tucci will play Caesar Flickerman in The Hunger Games for Lionsgate. Flickerman is the TV host of the deadly Hunger Games, who interviews all of the 24 tributes from the 12 districts and creates drama and sympathy for them among the TV viewing public. Gary Ross is directing the adaptation of the Suzanne Collins novel.

Hunger Games Stunt Training Begins!

And the filming preparations begin! According to a source close to E!, the starts of The Hunger Games movie have begun their stunt training "boot camp." This is so exciting! I can wait to start seeing pictures of the set later this summer! Stay tuned :)
Clearly, this is no CGI-powered Twilight kinda franchise in the making.
With just a month left before The Hunger Games begins shooting, an inside Hunger source tells us the entire cast is currently enrolled in physically demanding stunt training!
And while these pretty boys and girls are battling it out in training, wonder how the cast is getting along in real life?
"The cast mates are all really happy with each other and get along great so far," our source tells us, regarding the actors who have varying degrees of fame.
And while most of the tributes cast already have serious experience as stunt doubles, everyone is still required to attend training a few days a week, we're told.
"They have to learn archery, sword fighting, martial arts and the like," the knowledgeable insider insists. Filming starts in June in North Carolina, do they don't have too much longer to snap to!
"They want the actors to genuinely know what they are doing," adds our source, who also says the film will have a "very cool and futuristic feel."
When we ran into District 1 tribute Glimmer, played by Leven Rambin, at the IWC Schaffhausen presents Peter Lindbergh's Portofino last week, the actress told us she had to stay mum on the film. But she did say, "I'm so excited to work with Josh Hutcherson, I've been friends with him for years."
Good thing the Tributes are all getting along so far, because our Hunger mole tells us they will most likely be filming all summer long.
Hmm. With all these young tributes stuck on set for the summer, wonder if North Carolina is going to turn into a little Vancouver-style off-camera love-fest?

And The District 8 Tributes Have Been Reaped!

Man, I just can't keep up with all of these casting announcements! Here are the two District 8 Tributes that were announced sometime earlier this week!
Samuel Tan and Mackenzie Lintz have been reaped as the tributes from textile-producing District 8, according to the movie's official Facebook page. Our friends over at Down With the Capitol did a bit of sleuthing and found the Lintz Kids' website (they're an acting family!), in which Mackenzie's biography says she is new to Hollywood but screen tested for "True Grit" (impressive). Samuel is a bit more of a mystery, so stay tuned for more on him.
For those keeping track at home, this leaves just three districts tribute-less. Fans are no doubt most curious for the casting of District 2's Cato and Clove, as they figure more prominently in the Games than most.

District 9 Tributes Announced!

So many roles being cast this week, it's hard to keep up! The District 9 Tributes have been unveiled: Imanol Yepez-Frias and Annie Thurman!
The week isn’t completely over until a new casting for The Hunger Games movie is unveiled.
This time, unknowns Imanol Yepez-Frias and Annie Thurmanhave been tapped as the unnamed District 9 tributes for the upcoming Lionsgate film, to be directed by Gary Ross. Yepez-Frias and Thurman join a group of relative newcomers as the studio rounds out its ensemble cast.
Unlike the rest of the districts in the Suzanne Collins novel, District 9’s specialty is unknown. During the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss and the District 9 tribute fight over some supplies.

Asheville Gearing Up For The Hunger Games

Keep your eyes and ears open for some VERY loud noises, Asheville locals! Apparently The Hunger Games (aka Artemis) has gained permission by the county for the use of explosives at the end of next month. This could be referring to the opening ceremony in the Capitol or perhaps the scene where Katniss is running away from fireballs in the arena.
Artemis is the working title of the movie. See the production company's application here. Read the commissioners resolution hereThe filmmakers want to shoot off fireworks between June 20-30 at the North Fork Reservoir.
Buncombe County commissioners on Tuesday gave their stamp of approval to a fireworks permit requested by filmmakers who are reportedly planning to shoot a major motion picture around Asheville. It's called The Hunger Games, based on the popular young adult novel of the same name. I say "reportedly" because the film company has yet to confirm any of this, despite some recent action down in South Asheville, and a series of casting calls.

Wes Bently as Seneca Crane!

Wes Bently has been cast as Seneca Crane, the Head Gamermaker in the 74th annual Hunger Games, in The Hunger Games. Accompanying this announcement is speculation regarding the possibility of Woody as Haymitch, rather than Reilly as recently reported.
Lionsgate just sent us this press release about Wes Bentley being cast as Head Gamemaker Seneca Crane in The Hunger Games movie (note that this means NY Mag's report that Woody Harrelson was offered the role of Seneca Crane may have been incorrect, lending legitimacy to the possibility of Woody playing Haymich):
WES BENTLEY CAST AS SENECA CRANE IN LIONSGATE’S THE HUNGER GAMES
LOS ANGELES, CA, May 05, 2011- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES are pleased to announce that actor Wes Bentley (AMERICAN BEAUTY, GHOST RIDER) has been cast in the role of Seneca Crane in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel.

Paula Malcomson will be playing Katniss and Primrose’s mother. It was also announced that Elizabeth Banks has signed on for the part of Katniss’ pre-games handler Effie Trinket.
Bentley is represented by WME and Untitled Entertainment.

About The RoleSeneca Crane is the “Head Gamemaker” of the 74th Hunger Games, in which heroine Katniss Everdeen and childhood acquaintance Peeta Mellark are forced to compete against one another and 22 other young people in a life-threatening survival setting after Katniss bravely volunteers herself to enter the arena in the place of her younger sister.

The District 7 Tributes!

And the District 7 Tributes have been cast!
Yeesh, it’s been a full 24 hours since the last piece of Hunger Games casting news hit the Web. How do you cope? Why, but reading about another piece ofHunger Games casting news, of course! This time, it’s Panem’s District 7 — known for its lumber — which has found its unnamed tributes in Sam Ly and Leigha Hancock. Ly, who will play the tribute boy, has previously appeared in the direct-to-video Tremors 4: The Legend Begins and Timecop: The Berlin DecisionHunger Games will be Hancock’s first film.
Ly and Hancock join several other unknown actors in Lionsgate’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins dystopian novel. The film, directed by Gary Ross, also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth, Paula Malcomson, and Willow Shields.Hunger Games will hit theaters March 23, 2012. Now, Lionsgate, I know we still have to cast Districts 2, 8, 9, and 10, but how long do we have to wait to find out who plays Haymitch?

District 6 Tributes Announced!

More and more casting announcements for The Hunger Games movie!  Soo excited!  Congrats to Ashton Moio and Kara Peterson, the District 6 Tributes!

The Reaping continues: Two more tributes, the boy and girl from District 6, have been cast in Liongate's adaptation of "The Hunger Games." Following what seems to be a pattern, both District 6 parts went to relative unknowns—Ashton Moio and Kara Petersen.
Ashton's credits include stunt double work for several films like last year's "Let Me In," "Charlie Wilson's War," "The Longest Yard," and "The Ring Two." Kara has also done stunt work including 2007's "Bring It On: In It to Win It," and she'll appear in this summer's highly-anticipated "Super 8."
Ashton and Kara join previously cast tributes Amandla Stenberg and Dayo Okeniyi (District 11),Leven Rambin and Jack Quaid (District 1), Ian Nelson and Kalia Prescott (District 3), Ethan Jamieson and Tara Macken (District 4), Jackie Emerson and Chris Mark (District 5), and, of course, District 12 tributes Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.
While it's hard to get super-excited about casting minor characters, it just means we're one step closer to seeing "The Hunger Games" unfold on the big screen. And that's something I can't complain about. Plus, I'm guessing Ashton and Kara's previous stunt work will serve them well fighting it out in the Arena. Even if we already know their fate...

Elizabeth Banks As Effie Trinket!

Elizabeth Banks has recently announced her next big role ... in The Hunger Games!  She will be playing the part of Effie Trinket, Katniss' (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta's (Josh Hutcherson) Capitol escort.  With all these castings, my excitement for this movie grows and grows!  Here's an email that was sent to HungerGamesMovie.org from Lionsgate:
IT’S OFFICIAL: ELIZABETH BANKS CAST AS EFFIE TRINKET IN LIONSGATE’S THE HUNGER GAMES
LOS ANGELES, CA, April 28, 2011- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES are pleased to announce that Elizabeth Banks (SEABISCUIT, 30 ROCK, W, SPIDERMAN, THE NEXT THREE DAYS, THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN) has been cast in the role of Effie Trinket in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel.
Banks joins a cast of talented young actors – Jennifer Lawrence as series heroine Katniss Everdeen with Willow Shields as little sister Primrose, and Josh Hutcherson, who was cast as Peeta Mellark, with Liam Hemsworth in the role of Gale Hawthorne.  Amandla Stenberg was cast in the role of Rue, Dayo Okeniyi as her District 11 partner Thresh, and Leven Rambin and Jack Quaid as District 1’s Glimmer and Marvel round out the cast of the fellow tributes drafted to join Katniss and Peeta in the arena.  Paula Malcomson will be playing Katniss and Primrose’s mother.
Effie Trinket is a perennially perky handler assigned by the Capitol to escort and advise tributes  Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Melark  as they prepare for the Hunger Games.  From the day Katniss volunteers to take little sister Prim’s place, Effie maintains a freakishly breezy disposition and an obsession with etiquette and punctuality that masks a growing attachment to these two young tributes.
The Hunger Games is a worldwide fan phenomenon, the novel having been on the New York Times best seller list for over 130 consecutive weeks. The film chronicles Katniss Everdeen’s defiant struggle to survive in a future dystopia where The Capitol requires its twelve subjugated districts to atone for their onetime insurrection through the annual “Hunger Games,” a fight-to-the-death event held in a fantastical man made arena.  Although persevering through extreme hardship is commonplace for the audacious heroine, she is forced to make choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love in order to win the games and return home to District 12.
THE HUNGER GAMES will be directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik.  Collins’ best-selling novel, which has over 3 million copies in print in the United States alone, is the first in a trilogy of science fiction/action novels which have developed a global following.
Lionsgate will release “The Hunger Games” on March 23, 2012.

District 3 Trubites Are Cast!

And the District 3 Tributes have been cast!  Although these two characters' names are not mentioned in the book, we are finally given something about them.  Ian Nelson and Kalia Prescott are the lucky actors given the roles!
They may go unnamed in Suzanne Collins' dystopian thriller, but now you can put faces (and names) to the actors portraying District 3's tributes: Meet Ian Nelson and Kalia Prescott!
The duo will represent Panem's electronics-producing region (a background that comes in handy for the male tribute during the Games). As you can guess, since neither tribute is named, these two don't play a huge part in the frenzied fight, but as I've alluded, you'll want to keep your eye on Ian's character, for sure.
As is the case with many of the tributes thus far in "The Hunger Games," Ian and Kalia are green in the Hollywood scene. In fact, the majority of Kalia's screen credits are as a stunt girl (very fitting for this particular production, no?). According to her resume, Kalia also holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. (We certainly wouldn't want to face her in the Arena!)

John C. Reilly in Talks to Play Haymitch

John C. Reilly has been offered the role as Haymitch in The Hunger Games, out in theatres 3/24/2012.  I think he'd be a great fit for the character; however, I pictured someone more like Robert Downey Jr.  What are your thoughts?
Loaded question: Who plays a paunchy, pathetic drunk better than John C. Reilly? Actually, that’s a bit of a trick, because the answer, of course, is no one. And for that reason, we’re told it will be the Oscar-nominated Reilly who’ll be soon be getting the offer to play Haymitch Abernathy in the forthcoming adaptation of Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Gamesat Lionsgate Films.
If you’ve read Collins’s bestselling book, you already know that Abernathy is the only living person from Panem’s District 12 to ever win The Hunger Games, and now serves as a mentor, albeit an alcoholic one, to district tributes Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). And if you haven’t read the book, well, then you have no earthly idea what we just said, but this site can help you get up to speed.
We’re also told that Reilly had been in talks to join Disney’s Oz, the Great and the Powerful as the sidekick to James Franco’s Wizard character, but that those talks had stalled; now we know why.

Paula Malcomson Cast As Mrs. Everdeen

A new actress, Paula Malcomson, has joined the Hunger Games cast as Katniss and Prim's mother.  She looks like a good pick, although I don't know much about her (another unknown?).
Paula Malcomson has officially been cast as the mother of Katniss and Prim Everdeen in The Hunger Games, according to a press release from Lionsgate. The widowed and down-trodden Mrs. Everdeen — a victim of the totalitarian government ofGames‘ dystopian future — required “an actress with some gravitas,” said producer Nina Jacobson, “someone who could really transport herself, and audiences, to a place as tough as District 12.” Malcomson has an impressive TV resume, including starring roles in Capricaand Deadwood and a recurring part on Sons of Anarchy, but Games marks her first major movie role. Malcomson joins a cast that already includes Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne.

Possible Set Locations

IMDb.com has several possible set locations posted, all in North Carolina.  Some of the cities include: Asheville, Charlotte, Shelby, and Wilmington.  I wonder if they will include Colorado in the list of locations (since the Capitol is described as being located in The Rockies).

Can't you imagine this being the Arena?
Although many sites list the movie to being shooting in April, The Hunger Games is listed to start filming May 23-Sept 3, 2011.  From living in the South my whole life, I can sympathize with how brutal the heat will be during this time of the year.  I can't wait to start seeing set pics!

Peeta and Gale Have Been Cast!

Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson have been cast as Gale and Peeta.  I wouldn't have cast these roles better myself.
Josh (Peeta) and Liam (Gale)
The love triangle is complete. Lionsgate announced on April 4 that it had cast two key players in director Gary Ross' highly anticipated film adaptation — due out March 23, 2012 — of the Suzanne Collins YA thriller The Hunger Games. Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right) and Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song) will flank Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen throughout the trilogy. Presumably both actors will dye their hair to appease Collins' vigilant fans.
Hutcherson, 18, was tapped for the role of Peeta, Katniss' fellow District 12 tribute who accompanies her into the titular reality TV battle-to-the-death. Hemsworth, 21, will play her childhood friend, Gale. ''It's very easy to be in the camp of 'Oh, I'm a Peeta person' or 'I'm a Gale person,' '' producer Nina Jacobson tells EW. ''I think Gary understands what Katniss sees in both of them and knows how to build a movie which is both an epic adventure but also a very intimate love story.''
When EW sat down with the affable Hutcherson at March's South by Southwest film festival, he spoke to us about what a thrill it would be to win the role every man of a certain age in Hollywood wanted. ''That would be very, very cool,'' he gushed. ''I love Peeta. The character is so much who I am — self-deprecating, a people person. There's a lot of things that I see of myself in Peeta. And he's such a great character! Like in the third book, oh my God. One can only dream.''
With production eyeing a late-May start date, Hunger Games fans can look forward to a steady stream of casting news. ''We're very, very close,'' Ross told EW recently.

District 11 Tributes Have Been Cast

The next two tributes have been announced .. although this isn't quite like the reaping .. is it?  Dayo Okeniyi and Amanda Stenberg have been cast as Thresh and Rue.  All these castings are getting me VERY excited for the movie!
The Hunger Games adaptation has already found its District 12 tributes in Jennifer Lawrence(Katniss) and Josh Hutcherson(Peeta). Now, Lionsgate has set its sights on District 11: EW has confirmed exclusively that the studio has cast Hollywood newcomers Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg as Thresh and Rue in the adaptation of the Suzanne Collins trilogy, directed by Gary Ross. Okeniyi, playing the intimidatingly strong tribute, has appeared in a short calledEyes to See and an upcoming horror film, Slew Hampshire. Stenberg, who is on board as Katniss’ arena ally Rue, has roles in the September’s Colombiana and the telefilm Taste of Romance.

Willow Shields Cast As Prim Everdeen

Willow Shields has just been cast as Prim Everdeen in the upcoming The Hunger Games movie, out in theatres Mar. 23, 2012!  This actress is a newcomer to the movie business.  You can catch her in her most recent movie this Sunday!
Katniss Everdeen may be the heroine of Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" trilogy, but if it weren't for the 16-year-old's little sister Primrose (nicknamed Prim), the events of the series would have never unfolded. So we're pretty excited to finally find out who will play the 12-year-old originally slated for the Hunger Games before Katniss took her place.
Much like this week's other "Hunger Games" additions, Willow is a relative unknown. Her weightiest credit thus far seems to be an appearance on an episode of "In Plain Sight."
In a statement released by Lionsgate, director Gary Ross praised the New Mexico native, saying, "It’s so exciting to find an amazing young actress like the one we just met. Prim is an emotionally demanding role and in many ways she is the cornerstone of the story. Willow Shields will make an amazing Prim and we’re very lucky to have her."
With her sweet face and cute braids, Willow looks like she's more than ready to step into the dystopian world of Panem as Prim. We approve!
The actress joins a rapidly growing cast that already includes Jennifer Lawrence (as big sis Katniss), Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Amandla Stenberg, Dayo Okeniyi, Leven Rambin and Jack Quaid.
